In 1988 a Swedish photo magazine published an article on building your own large format camera. The article was based on the advice and experience of a professional Swedish camera builder, Kurt Lundell.
Svein Øye, a teacher in a high school in Eastern Norway, is one of several people who have been inspired by this article to build a 4 x 5 inch monorail camera with friction focusing. Svein used birch for the camera, and planed every single piece by hand. The camera works fine and he has taken some beautiful pictures with it, he writes in a recent letter.
